South African Jewish Board of Deputies to CRIF: “We assure the French Jewish community of our support and concern”

Dear Roger

On behalf of the Jewish community of South Africa, we wish to record our outrage over the vicious assault of two Jewish worshipers outside a synagogue in Paris on Saturday evening and to assure the French Jewish community of our support and concern during this difficult time.

We have also conveyed our concerns to the French Ambassador in South Africa, inter alia stressing that this latest outrage was just one of an ever growing number of hate crimes committed in recent years against members of the French Jewish community.

This unprovoked and brutal attack was an attack not just on French Jewry but on the entire Jewish world. In response, we can only redouble our efforts to combat the scourge of antisemitism wherever it raises its head, and to pledge our whole-hearted support to our Jewish brethren everywhere in their efforts to counter this infamous ideology.

We sincerely hope that the perpetrators of this despicable attack will be found and brought to justice, and that appropriate steps will be taken by the authorities to effectively address the alarming upsurge of antisemitism in the country.

Mary Kluk, Chairman

South African Jewish Board of Deputies
