Press release

Paris, July 3, 2016

Elie Wiesel was an emblematic figure of the memory of the Shoah and the Jewish suffering. All his life, he was a committed intellectual, tirelessly denouncing war, intolerance, injustice and indifference.

His writing, which brought together the different cultural influences that passed through his life and work, with many Hasidic references, has deep meaning. He was a writer, a philosopher and a great storyteller.

For Crif, he was a resistant to oblivion and a memory activist. It is a beacon for humanity that disappears.
