Crif - The incomprehensible French vote at the UN denying connection between the Temple Mount and Judaism

Crif President Francis Kalifat strongly reacted and described this vote as "incomprehensible and unacceptable".

The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution about Jerusalem on Wednesday, denying any link between the Temple Mount and the Jewish people. This resolution names the Temple Mount, the mecca of Jewish civilization, by its Arabic name only : Haram el-Sharif.

129 votes expressed support for this resolution. Among them was that of France. An incomprehensible and painful decision and vote for Crif PresidentFrancis Kalifat who was outraged on Twitter:

Crif regrets France’s vote at the United Nations against the state of Israel which does not serve peace. It is a deceptive resolution that turns its back on the virtuous process of the Abraham Accords and perpetuates the conflict instead of urging Palestinian officials to return to the negotiating table.

There were 11 votes against the resolution and 31 abstentions.

The United States, which opposed the text, said that the omission of an inclusive terminology to name this site considered sacred by the three monotheistic religions constituted a "real and serious concern".

The motion, entitled "The Jerusalem Resolution" had been proposed by the Palestinian Authority and the Arab countries. The representative of the Palestinian Authority at the UN, Riyadh Mansour, welcomed this victory and spoke of a "suitable and necessary" resolution.
