At the initiative of CRIF, a manifesto entitled "Living Together!" united the highest religious, political and trade-union authorities of France. The manifesto aims to restore calm, foster unified values of the Republic and stresses the principle of Republican fraternity. It was published in major French newspapers Le Monde, Le Figaro, Libération, La Croix, Les Echos and Réforme.

Living together

"Religious leaders, main political parties, and two trade-unions signed a joint text against "hatred" and the "unhealthy atmosphere in France, calling for union "around the values of the Republic."

"An unhealthy climate settles every day in our country. On the street, at school, on Internet, spreading hatred" say the signatories of this manifesto entitled "Living Together" and "presented at the initiative of the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions in France (CRIF)."

"The unity of our country is threatened. Facing these dangers, it is urgent to respond and react" said the text. "Let us be united around the values of the Republic," launch signatories, calling for a "peaceful society, where differences of religion, color, origin are accepted, understood and respected."

The call comes a week after the second round of city elections, marked by the victory of the National Front in more than a dozen cities, but the text does not refer to this breakthrough.

Religious signatories are the Archbishop of Paris Mgr André Vingt-Trois, President of the French Council of the Muslim Faith, Dalil Boubakeur, President of the Protestant Federation, François Clavairoly, Acting Chief Rabbi Michel Guggenheim and President of Buddhist Union, Marie-Stella Boussemart.

Secretary of Socialist Party, Harlem Désir, President of UMP, Jean-Francois Cope, Vice President of UDI, Rama Yade, President of modem, François Bayrou, and the Head of ecologist senators, Jean-Vincent Placé signed up the manifesto. Trade-unions CFDT and CFTC also joined the signatories with Roger Cukierman, President of the CRIF.
