Meeting in the U.S. Capitol

Roger Cukierman and the CRIF’s delegation in Washington were received in the Congress by the Congressional French Causus in the presence of Gérard Araud, Ambassador of France in Washington.

The House Members Rep. Adam Schiff (D-California), Congressional French Caucus Co-Chair; Rep. Ted Deutch (D-Florida); Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tennessee); Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Illinois); and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) participated to the meetings. Staffers were also invited and amongst the attendants were Casey Custin (Rep. Deutch), John Groch (Rep. Schiff), Jason Isakovic (Rep. Latta), Mischa Thompson (Helsinki Commission), Scott Cullinane and Jessica Roxburgh (both of whom work for the House Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia and Emerging Threats).
During an intense exchange with the US senators, the situation of Jews in France and Europe was discussed, the development of Islamic terrorism and the role of the Internet in the recruitment and training of jihadists. Roger Cukierman asked senators to support the approach of the CRIF and the French government in the search for a balance with social media to prevent the spread of hatred and terrorism on the Internet. Senators were very interested in the ideas presented by Roger Cukierman.
