Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande attended CRIF annual dinner

President Nicolas Sarkozy and the Socialist candidate leading the race to unseat him in upcoming elections François Hollande attended the CRIF's annual dinner, Wednesday february 8th 2012, honoring France's Jewish community in a rare joint appearance. The dinner hosted by the Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France has become a can't-miss date on the French political calendar.

CRIF President, Richard Prasquier, said the group was "proud" to host “men and women whose opinions diverge and some of whom will battle in universal suffrage.” You will find original speeches and pictures on CRIF's web site http://www.crif.org/. Please find below Richard Prasquier's speech translated in English.

In the presence of French-Israeli Gilad Shalit’s parents, President Nicolas Sarkozy reiterated his commitment to Israel’s security and strongly condemned Iran, but he emphasized “the solution is never military”. “The solution is political, the solution is diplomatic, the solution is in the sanctions”, Sarkozy said, referring to a string of U.N. sanctions over Iran’s nuclear program. CRIF’s dinner was attended this year by more than 1.000 politicians, prominent Roman Catholic and Muslim figures, directors of think tanks and NGO, as well as leading members of France's large Jewish community.

Exceptionally, Richard Prasquier with CRIF delegation will be in New York and Washington at the end of April 2012 between the two rounds of the French presidential elections, to comment on French politics and International relations.
