Actualité Juive : What is your state of mind, as newly elected president of CrifF?
Francis Kalifat : I begin my term in a very worrying situation for the Jews in France, since we have had since a series of anti-Semitic attacks, including murders, during the last years. The French Jewish community is worried with good reasons. It is therefore with great seriousness and responsibility that I endorse my new functions.
Is there still a point of optimism?
Optimism lies in the fact that the political authorities of our country are on our side. Today's situation is therefore not comparable to those we have already experienced in the past. We are not dealing with an anti-Semitism state, but with anti-Semitic acts, and we know who perpetrated them.
What is your first step?
My priority is zero tolerance for anti-Semitism, in all its forms, including anti-Zionism and the BDS. Although declared illegal in France, this campaign continues to promote hatred and detestation of Israel. We have a battle to fight, to eradicate BDS from the French landscape.
