The growing number of visitors (1 200 000 a year), the gradual and accelerating deterioration of the fragile structures at Birkenau, and of some of the objects exhibited (hair, etc…) demand new action.
At the same time, Haim Musicant, CRIF’s General Director, was meeting with the department of Veterans Affairs of the French Ministry of Defence. A large delegation led by Hubert Falco, Junior Minister of Defence in charge of Veterans Affairs, will be going to Auschwitz on 27 January 2010 for the 65th anniversary of the liberation of the camp.
The anniversary will also be celebrated at Unesco in Paris on the same day.
