The Minister of Justice invited at the General Assembly of CRIF

On behalf of Prime Minister Manuel Valls, Jean-Jacques Urvoas congratulated Francis Kalifat on his election.

To exercise extreme reactivity in the conduct of public action against racist and anti-Semitic offenses

In front of a particularly attentive audience, Jean-Jacques Urvoas, Minister of Justice, expressed the determination of his ministry and of the French government, in the fight against racism and anti-semitism.

During his speech, the minister called Roger Cukierman, outgoing President of CRIF, a "powerful, striking and impressive personality", whose "outrages are heard, because of your intimidating moral authority."

Then, addressing to Francis Kalifat, on behalf of Manuel Valls, Prime Minister, he congratulated the new Crif President on his election.

"You have a great task, a serious one nowadays, in a France that is brooding, in a France convinced that the future can only be black," he said.

The Minister of Justice then reiterated he does not intend to lead "a lyrical action with  bombastic verb." He said he wanted to be "sober and pragmatic," not making the choice "to be picked up by shocking messages. "

"I do not think noise is the best way to tackle subjects", especially not in the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and discrimination. However, he recalled a constant: the commitment of his Ministry and the Government.

He also insisted on the fact that prosecutors of the Republic are instructed to bring "an adapted and individualized criminal response" and to exercise extreme reactivity in the conduct of public action against perpetrators of racist and anti-Semitic offenses.

He recalled, in this regard, the "strong commitment" of the thirty six general attorneys  and of hundreds of attorneys, to assist in the fight against racism and anti-Semitism.

In the end, after having explained the ongoing reforms, the Minister said it should be possible to combat racism and anti-Semitism, whatever its form of expression and regardless of the crime committed.
