DECREASE IN ANTI-SEMITIC ACTS: SARKOZY AND CUKIERMAN SATISFIED

Nicolas Sarkozy and Roger Cukierman expressed their pleasure with the decrease in anti-Semitic acts observed during the first half of 2005. These acts decreased by 48% in the first half of 2005 compared to the same period in 2004. The Home Affairs Minister, who was receiving the president of the CRIF, reaffirmed his will to apply “zero tolerance” against anti-Semitic acts. The president of the CRIF thanked Nicolas Sarkozy, as well as the chief of police and the state prosecutor, for their "efficiency" in the search for culprits of racist or anti-Semitic aggressions.

Roger Cukierman suggested that mayors should summon the parents of minors who have committed racist or anti-Semitic aggressions to give them a course in civic education. The mayors could also be invited to organise visits to Auschwitz, to the Shoah Memorial in Paris, or to organise inter-religious symposia.

Pierre Mutz, the chief of police, who on 24th July visited the Sinai School, had pointed out to the CRIF representatives, vice-chairman Joseph Zrihen and Ariel Goldmann who is also the spokesperson of the SPCJ, that all young police officers appointed in Paris visit the Shoah Memorial.

For his visit to the Ministry of Home Affairs, Roger Cukierman was accompanied, in addition to Joseph Zrihen and Ariel Goldmann, by Haim Musicant, Managing Director of the CRIF, Pierre Kauffman, Honorary Director, and Francis Kalifat, member of the Executive.
