Roger Cukierman, accompanied by all the CRIF representatives from the Ile-de-France (Greater Paris) region, together with the Director General of CRIF, his professional team and the managers of the SPCJ, (Service de Protection de la Communauté Juive – Jewish Community Protection Service) for France and the Ile-de-France region, was received by Mr Bertrand Landrieu, Prefect for the Ile-de-France region and Prefect for Paris, who had also convened the prefects of the départements constituting the Ile-de-France region.
After having expressed his best wishes for the New Year to the representatives of CRIF, Mr Betrand Landrieu indicated that the statistics of violent anti-Semitic acts and threats have significantly dropped even though there are still true reasons for concern.
The local representatives of CRIF spoke of the need to promote inter religious dialogue and warned the authorities of the risks represented by certain associations whose initiatives promote extremism and ultraconservative religious positions.
Some of the difficulties related to anti-Semitic phenomena are recurrent even though they are improving, most notably in the neighbourhood of schools.
The suggestion was made to improve and extend the training of members of the police forces in understanding the issues involved in anti-Semitism.
It was clear that vigilance needed to remain constant. Bertrand Landrieu proposed that this meeting should be formalised and convened once a year in the same format.
