FAMILIES OF RIGHTEOUS GENTILES HONORED

CRIF's regional branch of Center of France, chaired by Eliane Klein, organised with Dr. Richard Prasquier, Chairman of Yad Vashem France and advisor to CRIF's Chairman Roger Cukierman, a ceremony during which the Dictionary of the Righteous Gentiles of France was awarded to seven families of the region. The event took place in Orleans's City Hall.

Simone Veil, President of the Foundation of the memory of the Holocaust and former President of the European Parliament was the ceremony's guest of honor.

Mrs. Veil met with the teachers and the pupils of the high school of Beaune-la-Rolande who are working on a project aimed at reminding that a concentration camp was located in that small city.

Several such camps were located in this area. A project is under way to establish an institution that will research and study the history of those camps.

Henri Bulawko and of Jacqueline Keller, respectively President and Vice-President of CRIF's Commission for Remembrance were present at the ceremony held in Orleans. The mayor of Orleans Serge Grouard condemned the "comfortable laxity of daily renouncements and cowardice" and paid homage to the "true courage of the some 2000 French Righteous Gentiles."
