POLICEMEN TAUGHT ABOUT ANTI-SEMITISM, ISRAEL, MIDDLE EAST

The Police Chief of the Hauts-de-Seine region (West of Paris) asked Historian Béatrice Philippe, Philosopher Alain Finkielkraut and CRIF's Serge Klarsfeld to deliver lectures on anti-Semitism, Israel and the Middle East conflict to over one hundred members of the Police force.

Part of the one-day "students" is in contact with schools, and the rest will act as relays in the various police precincts, said Police Chief Jean Chabrol. A similar initiative on Islam will take place in the fall.

Philosopher Finkielkraut said, "We are facing a difficult problem, a bad faith loaded with good intentions. Today, anti-Semitism comes dressed up as anti-racism. (…) Jews are submitted to brutality because of the Middle East conflict. And since the Israelis are portrayed as the "bad guys" in this conflict, people "understand" the brutality against Jews," explained Finkielkraut.

Serge Klarsfeld said, "The orphans of Jews deported from France still suffer because they have seen their relatives arrested by people in French uniforms. German soldiers did not arrest Jews in France; French gendarmes and French police officers did this. (…) All the same, one should think when one gets orders," said Klarsfeld to the audience.
