CRIF hopes that the Chief Rabbi will help Jewish values be even more integrated with the republican values of citizenship.
CRIF has assured the Chief Rabbi of its full support in fulfilling his mission.
“It would be good if the Central Consistory was to return to membership of CRIF, providing the functions of the each institution are clearly defined and respected,” said Gilles Bernheim.
He noted that “the Consistory is responsible for the religious life of the community, while CRIF’s domain is the sphere of politics, and the Social Fund, as its name says, is social and cultural.” He added that “even though this division of responsibilities may at times be subject to special dispensations, I will do everything in my power to bring together the leaders of the institutions on a regular basis, to remind each one of their obligations, of the scope of their activities and to try to solve any problems as they arise.”
