The Head of State, who made this award on his personal recommendation, paid homage to "the man of dialogue and openness, who has led a determined fight against all forms of racism, and who strongly defends Republican values".

During this same event, journalist and historian Alexandre Adler, former advisor to the CRIF President, was made an Officer of the National Order of Merit.
