CRIF draws attention to the fact that Hamas took upon itself to break the truce, despite incessant warnings by the Israeli government, and continues to carry out relentless attacks on towns in the south of Israel. CRIF considers that no country would have accepted such provocations without responding.
CRIF is confident that Israel’s authorities will ensure the security of its citizens.
“CRIF stands with the government of Israel and with its army, whose first duty is to ensure the security of its citizens. We stand with the people of Israel faced with Hamas’ aggression,” said Haim Musicant, General Director of CRIF, answering questions from the French media.
Haim Musicant said that Hamas is responsible for the present situation because it broke the truce by launching attacks against the civilian population in the south of Israel. “Like the Iranian regime, Hamas wants to destroy Israel. What’s more, they claim to follow the radical ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood.” Haim Musicant added that “Hamas took the Palestinian people hostage” by illegally taking power in Gaza in June 2007, and by attempting at all costs to sabotage the peace negotiations between the Palestinian Authority and Israel.
