Chief Rabbi of the Lubavitch community in France, Rabbi Hillel Pevzner died last October, 2, in Paris at 86. Born in Minsk, Belarus, in 1922, a survivor of Bolshevik Russia and of Nazi Germany, Rabbi Pevzner settled in Paris in 1947 and was appointed Chief Rabbi of the Lubavitch community here in 1951. The French authorities awarded him the rank of chevalier in the Legion of Honor.
