The CRIF in action

Sderot, the martyred town

Sderot and the neighbouring area is home to about forty thousand people who live in fear of their lives every day of the week. Missiles have already hit three synagogues. However, international opinion does not seem to react, as it certainly would have done, say the representatives of the inhabitants, if Israeli shells had hit mosques or churches.

A very enlightening discussion around the table examined all the possible solutions, from ripostes to try to hit the attackers before they retreat right through to the extreme solution of having Zahal forces reoccupy the Gaza Strip.

The humanitarian action by the Russian billionaire Arkady Gaydamak was mentioned, but the group left with the knowledge that the inhabitants of Sderot feel that French, European and international opinion is often more sensitive to the distress of Palestinians than of bombed Israeli populations.

A further CRIF visit to Sderot and the region was mentioned.
