Trial for the profanation of the Jewish cemetery in Lille

He admitted the facts, while denying the anti-Semitic nature of his deed.

David-Olivier Kaminski, counsel for LICRA (International League against Racism and Anti-Semitism) demonstrated the fundamentally anti-Semitic nature of this action. The lawyer, who is a member of CRIF’s Steering Committee, drew attention to the fact that the broken headstones were those of people who had survived the Holocaust. Counsel Kaminski explained that the ripples from this case had gone well beyond the borders of France’s northern region and had deeply shocked not just France’s Jewish community but the whole nation.

The Prosecution asked for 16 months imprisonment along with an international arrest warrant, because the defendant had fled to Algeria.
