This decision is an unacceptable challenge to religious freedom guaranteed by Article 9 of the European Convention on Human Rights. It undermines the very essence of Judaism and the traditions that have accompanied the history of the Jewish people throughout the world. It attacks the Jewish communities of Europe already exposed to an unprecedented resurgence of anti-Semitism. It is insulting when circumcision and excision are put on the same level. It is dangerous because it stigmatizes Jews and reopens the door to all forms of caricatures. It is inconceivable for anyone who has lived the Shoah. We urge you to resist for this decision never to be implemented in France and elsewhere in Europe.
