Farewell to Crif from Roger Cukierman

The outgoing President of CRIF recalls three years of fighting and intense commitment.

Dear friends,
 
Some had suggested me to run for a 4th term. I refused, for several reasons, all excellent :
 
My age, because contrary to appearances - which I freely admit are misleading - my age is well advanced.
 
I announced in 2013 that I will do only one term and I always keep my promises.
 
My first term in 2001 was marked by the start of the wave of anti-Semitic acts. The 2nd was marked by the murder of Ilan Halimi in 2006. The 3rd term was marked by the four deaths from the attack against the Hypercasher. The duty of precaution asks me to avoid a 4rth one.
 
I did'nt stop all those who criticized my management and gave me lessons, from applying. There were many to say they would. And just as many to get cold feet.
 
It is true that, to want to be president of Crif, one really needs to love serving the community. Some might say it takes a good dose of masochism.
 
The job is not paid. It's full time. Whatever you do you will be criticized by Jews, either because you do too much, or because you do not enough.
 
In addition, you will be hated by our opponents to the point of having to be under strict and constant police protection.
 
So the candidate who stands today in front of you deserves great respect. Because he knows all that... Read more.
