Crif - Crif mobilized for Fabien Azoulay, imprisoned in Turkey and tortured because French, Jewish and gay

Crif President met with Sophie Wiesenfeld, president of the Support Committee for Fabien Azoulay, as well as with Carole-Olivia Montenot, Fabien Azoulay's lawyer. Indeed, for three years, Fabien Azoulay, a 43-year-old French Jew and gay, has been subjected to abuses in Turkish prison. A petition has been launched to allow him to come back to a normal life, with his family, in humane conditions.

Francis Kalifat spoke with Sophie Wiesenfeld, president of the Support Committee for Fabien Azoulay. He informed her of the Crif's mobilization for the rapid transfer of Fabien Azoulay. Sophie Wiesenfeld informed the President of Crif of the elements of the procedure and of the important and urgent issues of the file.

The Turkish Ambassador said that Turkey would not oppose the transfer if France requested it, Francis Kalifat offered to approach the Quai d'Orsay to ask that this request be carried out quickly.

Sophie Wiesenfeld will remain in contact with Crif to coordinate future actions in order to obtain a favorable outcome to this humanitarian issue, Fabien Azoulay being in danger in Turkish prisons, as his lawyer François Zimeray declared yesterday.

Francis Kalifat also spoke with Fabien Azoulay's lawyer, Carole-Olivia Montenot, who informed him of the details of the procedure and gave him news of the detainee.

Francis Kalifat sent a message to the President of the Republic and requested an interview with the Minister of European and International Affairs in order to make them aware of Fabien Azoulay's condition and to ask them to promote his transfer to a French prison establishment.

Crif remains mobilized on this cause and signed the petition on change.org.
