ANTI-SEMITIC ARAB SATELLITE TV

Following CRIF’s action to prevent the broadcast of anti-Semitic programs on Arab satellite TV channels beamed at France, the Conseil Supérieur de l’Audiovisuel (CSA), the French broadcasting authority and regulatory body announced that the CSA and the European satellite operator Eutelsat would “cooperate in order to list all the channels broadcasted by the operator and make them compliant with the European legislation.”

This decision comes following the broadcast by the Al-Manar satellite TV Channel run by the Lebanese Hezbollah of an anti-Semitic soap serial. The channel, like dozens of other Arabic stations, is beamed at Europe and can be seen in France although none of the stations signed a broadcast agreement with any member of the European Union, evading thus all possible monitoring of their content. This situation should now change.
