CHIRAC: HOLOCAUST DENIERS SHOULD BE RIGOROUSLY PUNISHED

French President Jacques Chirac asked that Holocaust deniers be "rigorously punished". He repeated his "total determination" to fight against anti-Semitism. The French President was speaking on the twentieth anniversary of the association Judaism and Freedom, an affiliate to CRIF. M. Chirac spoke to Judaism and Freedom's President Claude-Gerard Marcus, also member of CRIF's Steering Committee, in presence of CRIF's President Roger Cukierman and of its Secretary General Haim Musicant.

The French President encouraged the struggle against "Holocaust deniers and revisionists who are sadly and outrageously at work and who should be punished rigorously. I want to repeat in front of you, seriously and solemnly, my total determination and the government's to systematically sue and punish with all the rigor of our laws all anti-Semitic attacks. What is at stake is our image of the Republic and of France.

Nicole Guedj, Cabinet minister in charge of the Rights of the Victims, also attended the function.
