CRIF MEETS ISLAMIC ORGANIZATION

In the framework of its routine encounters with representatives of all parts of the French population, CRIF met with the leaders of the "Union des Organisations Islamiques de France" (Association of the Muslim Organizations in France). The UOIF is the main component of the new official body representing the Muslim population in France, the CFCM (French Council of the Muslim Faith).

UOIF's leader Fouad Alaoui expressed his "total condemnation of anti-Semitism" and committed himself and his organization to "react" in case one of its members would use anti-Semitic language in a speech or in a sermon.

UOIF is regarded as supporting a fundamentalist trend of Islam. Then-Interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy established the CFCM in 2003.

According to agreeing sources, the majority of anti-Semitic aggressions in France are due to Muslim youths.
