DECREASE OF VIOLENT ACTS AGAINST JEWS IN SCHOOL

Under joint relations between the CRIF and ministries involved in combating anti-Semitism, Roger Cukierman was received by National Education Minister Gilles de Robien to review anti-Semitism in schools and colleges.

The minister, accompanied by his advisor with whom the CRIF has been working for the last three years, heard concerns expressed by a CRIF delegation comprising General Director Haïm Musicant, professor Mireille Hadas-Lebel and member of the CRIF Steering Committee, professor André Kaspi, a member of the CRIF Political Studies Committee and Elisabeth Cohen-Tannoudji, responsible for monitoring the aforesaid issues. The CRIF believes that training teachers and devising a targeted approach to the use of language, stereotypes and prejudices are key objectives. The minister’s attention was drawn to the detrimental effect caused by the misplaced political militancy among some teachers with regard to the Middle East conflict.

The minister reported a 20% decrease in violent acts committed against Jewish pupils versus the previous year.
