FRENCH DEMONIZED BUSH, CUKIERMAN

"It is clear that Bush came forward as the leader of the American nation in the fight against international terrorism (…), as a commander-in-chief. Hence, the message of the American people is that the fight against international terrorism must go on," said CRIF's President Roger Cukierman on the French TV news channel LCI.

The French demonized Bush, said Cukierman."There was in France a very strong expectation that this Bush devil (…) would be replaced by someone with a more European character. Well, the American democracy has chosen otherwise and it was a shock for all of the Europeans who would have naturally favored Kerry."

"It was said in France times and again that Bush was under the influence (…) of American Jews. The opinion polls conducted in the US on the Jewish vote gave a totally different picture with 70 per cent of the Jews in favor of Kerry. Well, if Bush did win, this means that Jews are not as powerful as people here say they are."

Roger Cukierman said he wished "an improvement in the relations between Paris and Washington, for one cannot remain for a long time in such a hostile climate like the one prevailing currently between France and the United States," he concluded.
