Some one hundred young policemen received their mandatory training course at the Shoah Memorial, following a decision by the Chief of Police, Pierre Mutz, according to the daily Le Parisien. The Memorial staff explained to them how France collaborated with the Nazi regime and more particularly the role played by French police in the deportation of Jews and members of the Resistance movement. Serge Klarsfeld reminded them that “it was out the question to seek to create a guilt complex” among these young police officers, but of encouraging them “to think about their task and the acts they might be asked to accomplish out of obedience”.
