ROGER CUKIERMAN: “THE FRENCH ARE LOOKING FOR A COMMITMENT TO COUNTER THE IRANIAN NUCLEAR THREAT.” »

85% of those surveyed had expressed their shock. “The French refuse this message of hate,” said Cukierman.

34% of those surveyed said they disliked Israel. “It was worse in April 2004: then they were 48%. The withdrawal from Gaza explains this change. One should note too that 40% of those surveyed dislike the USA.”

7% of voters for Jean-Marie Le Pen (the leader of the far right National Front) and 3% of the 18-24s said they agreed with the statements made by the Iranian president. “This shows that there is still an educational effort to be deployed among young people,” said Roger Cukierman.

The French are not only worried for Israel but also for themselves as they see this regime equipping itself with nuclear weapons. “This shows that the French are reasonable and are aware of the risks. This is a useful survey because it shows the French authorities how much the French people want a strong commitment to counter the Iranian threat and particularly the danger of seeing that country producing nuclear weapons.”
