TRANSIT CAMP TO BECOME EDUCATION AND CULTURE CENTER

“Partners in the Milles Camp remembrance project - the Milles Camp was a transit camp for deportees during the Second World War - have made major progress in raising funds to launch the project", announced the “Remembering the Milles Camp” association. The association welcomed the "clear progress achieved in raising funds so that the Milles Camp can become the first French internment and deportation camp to be converted into an education and culture center".

The project aims to establish a memorial, education and cultural centre to perpetuate the memory of the camp which is located on the outskirts of Aix-en-Provence (South of France). The site has remained intact but has been largely forgotten. 10,000 interns passed through here between 1939 and 1942. 2,500 of these interns were Jewish men, women and children who were deported to Auschwitz via Drancy (Near Paris).
