On 14 January 2009, in the BDS-France blog, a text appeared suggesting “targeting specific products and flagship brands so as to visibly make certain Israeli firms lose market share. The challenge is to have a quantifiable impact, to get Israel’s economic decision-makers to bear the consequences of the policies pursued by the Israeli government.”
On 6 October 2009, the BDS-France blog published a list of the signatories of the appeal and the charter of the BDS-France Campaign, which included the Communist Party, the Greens and the League of Human Rights. The same day, Richard Prasquier, President of CRIF, addressed a letter to the leaders of the French Communist Party, the Greens and the League of Human Rights to protest against their joining the campaign. In his letter, Richard Prasquier emphasised that the appeal they had signed “recommends, encourages or wishes to multiply the boycotts of Israeli products, the divestment of foreign companies in Israel and sanctions against Israel. CRIF is particularly dismayed by the fact that, rather than encouraging dialogue among all the parties, you are supporting calls for boycott which are particularly reprehensible and criminal in the light of our penal code. By associating with this illegal and shameful campaign, we believe that you are adopting a totally one-sided view of a complex situation. By so doing you are not serving the interests of peace.”
