Bernheim in favour of the Consistory rejoining CRIF

Gilles Bernheim referred to “mutual criticism”. The Central Consistory does not approve of CRIF’s involvement in interfaith dialogue. “This is maybe because the Consistory itself is not sufficiently present in such dialogue, and when there is a free space others take it,” explained the Chief Rabbi. He expects to fill this gap by training rabbis for contacts with the other religions.

Referring to the fact that CRIF is “unhappy” following the political contacts initiated by the Paris and Central Consistories, and also to “problems” existing between the latter and the FSJU, Gilles Bernheim said he was available to help to establish contacts between the Community’s principal leaders. The same was true, he said, regarding “putting all the cards on the table concerning CRIF and the Consistory’s intentions”.
