CRIF’s General Director, Haim Musicant, said that CRIF had been particularly active, responding in an opportune way to specific events: Operation “Cast Lead” in Gaza against Hamas, the great demonstration that followed to express solidarity with Israel, the Fofana trial (Ilan Halimi’s assassin) which is now in its final phase.
As Vice-President of CRIF and chair of the Israel commission, Meyer Habib insisted on the closeness between CRIF and Israel, putting the focus on actions carried out in favour of Israel. “CRIF is continually conscious of what is happening in Israel.”
President Richard Prasquier reviewed the recent campaigns undertaken by CRIF, in particular following the appearance in France of an “anti-Zionist” voting list for the recent European elections, and also his numerous meetings with the Pope and his entourage, which have produced the expected results. He also recalled CRIF’s position on Jerusalem and the Near East, positions which have been the subject of recent press releases.
He concluded referring to the so-called Durban 2 follow-up conference in Geneva, where CRIF played a major and salutary role, thanks to numerous interventions with European diplomats and particularly the French. This resulted in the adoption of a far more acceptable text than might have been feared.
