CRIF symposium in Israel: As Jews, we are responsible for our Christian brothers, just as they are responsible for their Jewish brothers

Several factors encouraged the CRIF committee responsible for relations with the Roman Catholic Church and the Christian world to organise this symposium: the fruitful contacts established by some of its members with local Christian communities in Israel, in particular the Benedictine monastery in Abou Gosh, and the “questions raised by the rather hostile statements against Israel by Monsignor Michel Sabbah (the former Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem),” according to CRIF President Richard Prasquier. “The fundamental impression is of two separate worlds that don’t know each other.”

During the two days, Jews and Christians were invited to “discover the reality of the other side”, both in religious practices and daily life.
