The first of these two important meetings took place on Thursday 22nd May at the Rachi Centre in Paris, where CRIF welcomed the current Chief Rabbi who is a candidate for re-election.
Welcomed by the President of CRIF, Richard Prasquier, and by Haim Musicant, General Director of CRIF, Chief Rabbi Sitruk spoke of the dramatic stroke he experienced a few years ago. The Chief Rabbi, who readily acknowledges his debt to the community and who is continuing his rehabilitation, considers that he hasn’t yet completed his mission.
Meyer Habib, Vice President of CRIF, questioned Joseph Sitruk about the possibility of the Central Consistory returning unconditionally as a member of CRIF. His very encouraging answer was a clear “Yes, if I am elected”.
The Chied Rabbi is elected for a seven year term. Chief Rabbi Sitruk served already three terms.
