On 13 December, CRIF’s General Assembly elected ten members of its steering committee. One third of this body is renewed every two years.
For Haim Musicant, CRIF General Director, the results “show the interest that CRIF members have in the institution, because there were 21 candidates for 10 available seats”. 5 out of 10 outgoing members were re-elected. He notes the “newly elected members are younger” despite the “risk of ageing among all Jewish organisations”. He continued: “Reflecting the increasing move to the right of the institutional Jewish community, particularly when it comes to Israel, several of the newly elected steering committee members identify with these ideas”.
Only one woman has been elected among the ten members. Haim Musicant regrets “this female under-representation due possibly to lack of awareness or confidence”. In other words, more women should have stood for election.
On 18 January, the Executive Board will elect CRIF’s two vice-presidents and the treasurer. The various bodies will then be complete and ready for the electoral year that CRIF has now entered. Its president, Richard Prasquier, was elected for 3 years in May 2007. Consequently, there will be a new presidential election in the spring of 2010.
