Foreign Minister Kouchner to CRIF’s president Prasquier: “My hopes for Lebanon”

Referring to the inter-Lebanese meeting which took place in the presence of Hizbollah in La Celle-St-Cloud on July 14 and 15, the head of French diplomacy recalled the criticism that CRIF had expressed to him on this issue. He noted with some hope that the discussions and meetings that took place then are continuing in Lebanon, where he has been back since. He also referred to the creation of the “Khallass” collective, in which a wide representation of Lebanese civil society is involved, in order to find a solution for lasting peace in Lebanon, alongside the ongoing political negotiations. The Minister assured the President of CRIF that the fate of the Israeli soldiers kidnapped by Hizbollah and Hamas remains a cause of deep concern for the French authorities.

Richard Prasquier also expressed his concern regarding the Iranian nuclear programme and the threat this brings to bear on Israel in the long run. The minister agreed with him on this issue and also spoke of the inter-Palestinian situation.
