The cardinal archbishop continued: “The fraternal relations that have developed through the respect for our two traditions are a precious sign of the times. You can count on me to seek to preserve and further them. Shana Tova”.
For his part, former President Jacques Chirac called CRIF to wish “Shana Tova” to its president and the whole of France’s Jewish community.
Speaking with CRIF General Director Haim Musicant, he said “May the new year be for you as sweet as honey!”. The General Director thanked the former Head of State for his good wishes and expressed gratitude for his unstinting labour on behalf of remembrance, symbolised by his speech of 16 July 1995.
