After some introductory comments on the specific problems of his position, the Minister adopted a more polemical tone, recalling that “Eighty years ago, in many countries, Jews were being told: ‘Go to Palestine’. Incredibly, today we are being told: ‘Jews, leave Palestine!’. That really is too much! Our roots have been in the land of Israel for thousands of years,” said the minister, reading, in French, a text by Napoleon calling for the Jews to return to the land when he was in the Holy Land. “Not enough emphasis is given to the inalienable right of Jews to the land of Israel. In another area, we cannot accept what President Obama has said about the extension of the colonies being illegitimate.”
The President of CRIF was accompanied by Meyer Habib, Vice President, General Director Haïm Musicant and Edith Lenczner, in charge of communication.
