Kanovitch in Qatar: “The imperious need for dialogue”

Organised by the College of Shari’ah and Islamic Studies, the inaugural session was chaired by Qatar’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and was marked by lectures from Archbishop Pier Luigi Celata, General Secretary of the Papal Council for Interfaith Dialogue, and from Professor Bernard Kanovitch, Honorary Chair of CRIF’s commission for relations with Muslims.

In his address, Professor Bernard Kanovitch reminded his audience of the need for dialogue as a factor of peace, commenting Genesis 4 verse 8 where it is written that “Cain rose up against his brother Abel and slew him”. The opposite of human solidarity is indifference, intolerance and fanaticism.

The final declaration appealed for human solidarity through the dialogue of men and women of faith, and through cooperation, humanitarian action and respect for human rights.
