André Rossinot, Nancy’s mayor, has been in touch by telephone with his Israeli counterpart. In May, some dozen members of the Nancy City Council had joined a delegation of CRIF members and the Jewish community, on the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of the twinning of the two towns.
The mayor of Montpellier, Hélène Mandroux, has just returned from a visit to her city’s twin town, Tiberias, that has been bombarded by Hizbollah. The mayor was accompanied by Hubert Allouche, President of CRIF for Montpellier – Languedoc-Roussillon.
Hélène Mandroux was received by the Mayor of Tiberias, Zohar Oved, in the Tiberias crisis management room. Later, Hélène Mandroux and Hubert Allouche met with the population of Tiberias. Hubert Allouche said that the Mayor of Montpellier had been moved to see a town of 45,000 inhabitants empty itself of over half its population and to realise that those who stayed in town (the elderly, the sick…) do not have the wherewithal to leave the town. The municipality has to provide for their needs. All the town’s hotels, restaurants and stores are closed.
