The academic papers presented by a panel of young, mostly Polish, historians centred on the complexity of the relationship between Poland and the Jews, and the Polish and Jewish peoples throughout a thousand years of poorly assumed, poorly shared common history.
Some twenty speakers sketched the history of the Jews in Poland from their arrival in the 11th Century to the present day. The key points were the German occupation under the shadow of Auschwitz, the return of the survivors and national anti-Semitism during the Communist regime.
Richard Prasquier, CRIF President, concluded the colloquium by congratulating all the participants, and acknowledging the help of the AMOP (Association of Medical Doctors of Polish Origin) in preparing the colloquium, which he said had been important. These discussions prove that truth is the only road for opening up prospects of full reconciliation of Jewish and Polish memories.
