Prasquier: Don’t cast the shadow of racism on France’s Jewish community!

Questioned by the Israeli daily Haaretz, Richard Prasquier, president of CRIF, reacted to an article published by a French immigrant to Israel who wrote that many French Jews have racists feelings toward Muslims.

“We have been accused of all kinds of things without taking pains to check anything seriously,” said Prasquier. “In all these past years, France’s Jews have done nothing against Muslims. It’s true that these murderers are Jews, and for me this aggravates their deed, but you cannot draw general conclusions from this fact and apply it to all the other Jews in France. We do not hate Arabs. There are crazy people in any society.”

CRIF’s president said that relations between Jews and Muslims in France were generally “very good between their representatives”. He nevertheless fears that “Muslim extremists” may use this murder to encourage anti-Semitism.
