Prasquier: Durban II is a replica of Durban I

“…In these days when the spectre of crisis haunts us, when worries abound for the very existence of Israel, why should we be concerned by a UN meeting which, like so many others before it, will most likely end with inapplicable declarations of principle? (…)

The Conference document is once again a mere compilation of the work produced by working groups from different regions of the world: several of these articles have indisputably crossed the so-called “red lines” beyond which a number of countries, including France, have said they would not go to Geneva.

These red lines include the stigmatisation of one State that has been singled out (Israel) (…) and a new definition of human rights that forbids criticism of religions. Our societies are founded on the freedom of expression and this challenge to that freedom should arouse unanimous protests. Because, when all is said and done, what some are seeking to impose is none other than the legitimacy of fatwas against “blasphemers”, the legitimacy of jihadist language, the legitimacy of Sharia law in our societies.”
