Prasquier: anti-Semitic stereotypes are back

All in all, both SPCJ and Ministry of the Interior sources indicate a decline: 82, as against 104 in 2007. A more sophisticated analysis shows a decline in the number of threats but a stability in the number of acts: 50 from 1st January to 30 April 2008, against 53 for the same period the previous year.

According to the President of CRIF, anti-Semitic acts in France have for a long time now been disconnected from the situation in the Near East. He pointed out to the Minister of the Interior that the authors are in fact drawing on the most classic anti-Semitic stereotypes.

Michèle Alliot-Marie assured Richard Prasquier that her services were fully mobilised to fight anti-Semitism.

During their review of the situation, the Minister of the Interior and the President of CRIF, who was accompanied by the General Director Haim Musicant, also examined the issues of the propagation of anti-Semitism and racism on Internet. Michèle Alliot-Marie reminded her visitors that web surfers had the possibility of forwarding details of such incidents to the Cultural Office for Fighting Information and Communication Technology related Crime, which reports to her ministry.
