Prasquier: the police enquiry must determine the anti-Semitic character of the aggression against a young Jew

The policy enquiry must determine the role played by anti-Semitism in this aggression.

For the President of CRIF, this dramatic incident shows that despite the reduction in the number of anti-Semitic acts, some very real stereotypes remain embedded in our society.

Richard Prasquier recalled that this young man had been threatened to not press charges.

The fact that the young man had been held hostage in Bagneux [where Ilan Halimi was held and eventually killed a year ago] provoked numerous reactions. CRIF, the Paris Consistory, UEJF and Licra denounced this “anti-Semitic aggression”. The President of CRIF, Richard Prasquier, called for not “lowering the guard in the face of anti-Semitism and its manifestations”, while Licra denounced a “climate” deriving from a “perception of anti-Semitism as ordinary”. The Mayor of Paris, Bertrand Delanoë, finds it “intolerable that such savagery should continue to exist in our society”.
