Everyone agreed that one of the highlights of the symposium was President of CRIF Richard Prasquier’s firm, fighting and particularly clear speech, in which he reckoned that the “the red lines have been crossed”.
The French delegation, which was the largest, numbered some fifteen members. In the afternoon, they met with the French Ambassador Jean-Baptiste Mattei. For France’s representative to the UN in Geneva, everything will be done at the Review Conference in Geneva (…organised on Yom Kippur) to avoid the problem issues which are without any relation with the Conference and which had poisoned the atmosphere at “Durban 1”. France has adopted a philosophy that says it must never cross the red lines that it has laid down for itself.
Richard Prasquier has asked France to obtain a postponement of the forthcoming preparatory meeting. The previous meeting took place during the feast of Pessah. The French delegation did not hesitate to raise the issue of France’s many hostile votes against Israel at the Human Rights Council in Geneva, and expressed the hope of seeing a change of attitude in the near future.
