This remarkable group of English Orthodox students manages its meeting hall quite autonomously, including their synagogue. The students belong to all the Colleges of the University and introduced us to the exceptional quality of their student life that French students can only envy. Thus we were surprised to hear that there were no problems with exams on feast days: if needs be, the students are kept “locked up” for the day with “trustworthy host families” and take the exam the next day, without having had any opportunity to access the questions in the meantime.
Richard Prasquier explained the situation of students in France. Most of them were still more or less convinced that “it’s impossible to be Jewish in France because of the anti-Semitism”. The reality of the situation in the United Kingdom today is at least as worrying, if not more so, than the situation in France.
