Sarkozy to Peres: A viable Palestinian state before the end of 2008

“It is a great honour for me to welcome you here, said Nicolas Sarkozy addressing his guest, both as the President of Israel and, even more, as Shimon Peres”. “You are a symbol for me,” added the President of the Republic.

As a sign of friendship, the President of the Republic gave his guest four works by Chateaubriand (including a beautiful edition of “The Itinerary from Paris to Jerusalem”, in three volumes). Responding, Shimon Peres gave 3,600 olive trees grown on the land belonging to the prestigious Mikve Israel School of Agriculture, south of Tel Aviv, founded in 1871 on the initiative of Adolphe Crémieux, president of the Central Consistory.
