At this meeting, the Senegalese president expressed his determination to work on behalf of the peace process between Israelis and Palestinians, considering that he is now the president of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, which has 57 members. He referred to his relations with his Israeli counterpart Shimon Peres and indicated that a few months ago he had offered to be a mediator in view of obtaining the freedom of Gilad Shalit.
